Hello! Welcome to bluejane.com!
Please click on the links to the right to hear what I'm working on
for Crestview Chronicles. This is a hobby project, so I record songs
as I can. So far, the songs on this site are basically small samples
that I have recorded to help me get acquainted with the process of recording
with Cubase SX 3 and my computer. So don't expect too much for now :)

The Saga of Harrison Crabfeathers - Work in Progress
I went ahead and uploaded the sketch of this song. My goals for it are to add
drums and to start using some of the effects that come with Cubase SX.
So What - Miles Davis
My goals for this song were to have an intro, ending, head, and solos from both
the guitar and bass. Additionally, I wanted to get the mix better than in the
other recordings, and I experimented with mike placement for the upright bass
quite a bit before commiting to "tape". On top of that, I wanted to experiment
with modal chording on the guitar - which is a new thing for me. (I'm not a
guitar player by trade.) I'm pretty happy with how the whole thing turned out.
Blue Monk - Thelonius Monk
After the attempts at Scrapple, I decided to make things a bit easier for myself!
Blue Monk was a nice way to slow the pace a bit.
One of the things that is new on this recording is that I figured out how to normalize
the output better - so it's quite a bit louder than the preceding tracks.
Scrapple From the Apple - Charlie Parker
Man - what a challenge! I learned this one on guitar mainly to build my chops.
I think I learned quite a bit as to how to play bop on the guitar from working
on this one. It's not complete - basically the first song that I recorded lately
to help build recording skills.
I guess the most obvious thing is the use of audible click track, in the background.
We'll fix that later... I've since determined better ways to take care of the click track.
For now, just pretend that it's a hi-hat. ;)
Scruff Tones - Scott Maness
This is piece of a song that I dug up, that I recorded some years ago, when
I first got my hardware and software for recording. It's pretty muddy, but
it is one of my own compsitions. Perhaps someday I'll finish the composition
and record it again...
Currently, I'm trying to determine how to get a decent sounding drum track on
these songs, and I'm looking first of all at a program called EZDrummer (see
EZDrummer.com). This one could do well
with some light brushes... We'll see what I can come up with.
Progress
Check back from time to time to see my progress, and also drop me a line
if you'd like to chat at my email address
Something else that I've been tossing around is to have a page for each song, so that
I can go into more detail as to what I learned. If you think that might be helpful
to you, drop me a line
